1st Parents OH '24-25, PP block
Open Houses at Shikshantar are an opportunity for didi / bhaiyas and parents to bond with each other over the common purpose of making both school and home experiences seamless for our children.
The just concluded 1st Parent Open House Interaction for Sprouting Seeds, Nursery and Kindergarten groups reiterated the same and laid the base for a meaningful relationship to be carried through the year.
Parents reacquainted themselves with their child’s world through the planned experiences and discussions that followed, whether it was by walking barefoot on ‘Dhara’, listening to a story, role playing wind, playing in the sandpit etc.
The session on ‘Connecting to children’s world in Shikshantar’ saw parents discover the gap between their aspirations for their little ones and those of the children for themselves. They could make the linkage that it was this gap that lead to children feeling weighed down by unrealistic expectations from them, an expectation to be perfect all the time.
The parents could value the space provided by the school to children, to freely express themselves, to discover and exercise their choices, to find a sense of wonder in their experiences. Parents reflected and found that they needed to pause, ‘go slow’, create moments in their day to share and listen to their children more. Keeping away from their phones when with children was an agreed-upon place to begin from.
“Be the energy rather than the role” was the thought that they all went back with!
