Diwali Celebrations 2024
It is for the first time that the children of Classes I to IV participated and enjoyed the Diwali celebration with the older students from Classes V to XII. The Amphitheatre was abuzz with an infectious energy.
Dances and songs culminated from a series of discussions in class about the cultural significance of Diwali, stories and myths associated with the festival, and how to celebrate it responsibly.
The children of Pre Primary and Primary School enthusiastically celebrated the festival of lights. From cleaning their groups to making diyas, painting and decorating these on their own, they welcomed opportunities to build connections with the ways in which the festival is celebrated. “ मैंने घर पर भी सफाई करी, मम्मा के साथ अपने Toys साफ़ किये ”, “I will keep my diya in the pooja room.” Making decorations as well as mithai by themselves helped them experience the joy of handmade gifts to exchange with family and friends. They were overjoyed to see the decorations made by them adorn the school campus on the days of the Diwali Mela and the large group celebration.
The little ones from Pre Primary hung colourful paper lanterns and diyas on branches and all around the corridors. In the mornings leading up to the festival, they made ‘Shakkarparas’, ate ‘Jhalmudi’ and had mehndi designs applied to their hands.
The stories, songs and conversations initiated within groups saw each child acknowledge the light within themselves which makes them unique. They sensed and shared that Diwali was all about keeping this light aflame and also protecting the light of their friends.
On the day of the celebration, the little ones also participated in a vibrant dance to celebrate the occasion.
The values of cleanliness and compassion were given prominence by the Didis in an effort to celebrate the festival in a meaningful manner.
