Hamara Manch 2024
This year’s Hamara Manch by the Middle School children was a stimulating mix of performances, celebrating our history and culture, reflecting on the social dynamics of children’s spaces and taking a peek into what the future holds for coming generations.
There was no shortage of variety with children choosing to dance, act and sing. The wide array of performances with cultural significance was remarkable. The children of Class VI skillfully displayed several dances representing states like Nagaland’s bamboo dance while also weaving in the peculiarities of English idioms in another play and some children of Class VIII dramatically re-enacted the Mughal emperors and colonial expansion in Bengal.
Another group of children from Class VII opted to focus on the theme of adolescence and its challenges. A thoughtful play talked about schoolyard conflicts and trying to be accepted with our differences.
Many decided to create plays that warned of the consequences of humanity’s reckless endangerment to nature, advocating for environmental responsibility by saving water or communicating the necessity for conservation of trees. Others chose to express this sentiment through song and dance, celebrating each of the elements.
In sharing their process histories for each performance, it was clear to see the children’s belief and passion in what they decided to bring to the stage. They will have undoubtedly left an indelible impression on all the parents and grandparents watching!
