The harvest festivals of Lohri and Pongal
As winter fades and the children return, they begin to notice the turn of seasons and feel the warmth. They celebrated this welcome change by giving their thanks to the Sun. Didis shared the many ways this seasonal cycle is celebrated in different parts of the country - Lohri in the North, Pongal in the South.
Unexpected rains did not dampen the energy of our Primary children who shifted their Lohri celebration indoors. Their Circle Time then became the ideal spot to gather around a bonfire and share more about the festival.
When the weather cleared up, the little ones in Pre Primary took the chance to participate in a lovely little celebration around the Pongal festival. Didis shared the significance of the harvest festival and the importance of the Sun in producing bountiful crops and food for all in the wintry months while they painted intricate 'Kolam' rangolis. Boiling milk in earthen pots until it flowed over, the children joyously shouted "Pongalo Pongal!"
