Lohri Celebration 2025
We celebrated the harvest festival of ‘Lohri’ as a symbol of change in seasons, enjoying the warmth of the bonfire. Offering the winter harvest - groundnut, ‘rewari’ and maize as popcorn to the sun God.
As Minoti Didi, our Chairperson, spoke about the significance of the harvest festival and phase of ‘Uttarayan’ in the rotation of Earth’s movement, the Sun emerged to give us a warm beginning to the session after a foggy winter weekend.
Members of the Shikshantar family danced and sang to the tune of ‘Sunder Mundriye....’ and many other songs. Didis also shared the essence of other harvest festivals celebrated in different states like Makar Sankranti and Pongal.
We ended the celebration with our thoughts on the similarity between the warmth of the sun and the long awaited cheer and laughter of the children after the winter break and the forces of nature that come together to give bountiful crops.
