#Pink.is.ours campaign by the Family Society and I (FSI) Committee, 19th April 2022
With schools returning to their hustle and bustle, the FSI Committee was excited to roll out their plans to actively engage with the student community. The Committee started Unlearn last year with the purpose of creating a compassionate and bias free environment for all and were able to successfully initiate a dialogue online.
To take this work forward, the Committee organized their first ever campaign, #Pink.is.ours, wherein students and facilitators of Senior School came together to add their voice behind the purpose of Unlearn on 19th April’22. A week before, the Committee members met students of class IX, X and XII to initiate the discussion on gender bias and gender stereotyped colour preferences which are instilled even before we are born with ‘pink for girls’ and ‘blue for boys’ being the norm. The thought behind ‘pink’ being the colour of choice was clear as it perpetuates the most stereotypes. The campaign thus aimed to give colours the neutrality they deserve and eventually us as individuals too.
It was heartening to see the support the campaign received with an overwhelming number of facilitators and children who came dressed in their own version of ‘pink’ as a show of support on the day. The campaign also gave children the space to discuss about gender bias and acceptance of their true selves and became an initiator of fruitful discussions during circle time and classes with their didi’s and bhaiya’s.
