Our Earth- Class II
Visualising the Earth from near to far...children of Class II drew concentric circles from me to the world beyond, drawing parallels in our own and Earth’s physical features. They explored the landforms of Earth through guided meditation, stories and free play in sand pit.
Children deepened their connect through a mindful nature walk, building sensorial connections with the Earth: walking barefoot in consciousness on the ground under their feet, observing the sky, breathing in the soft breeze, feeling the natural elements: trees, soft petals, twigs, pebbles, grass etc. Through their free expressions children also presented their intrinsic connect with the Earth.
Integrating with formal engagements, children built an understanding of biodegradable and non-biodegradablematerial through hands on experience of sowing different material in pots and observing their state of decomposing (what does/does not mix with Earth!).
Our Question bank inspired the children to research and discuss about the ways Earth takes care of us and brainstormed multiple ways of protecting the planet Earth. Stemming from their close observations, children were introduced the 6R’s through leading questions enhancing their problem solving
ability. Project experience such as research and discussions in small groups enabled children to find realistic solutions.
Children enthusiastically created games, pots, bags, toys, pencil holders, etc. by using reusable material in small groups and presented their collection in their art gallery ‘कबाड़ से जुगाड़’.
They also expressed their deep connect with Earth through a creative write-up ‘My promise to Earth’ and culminated the theme through an interesting quiz with their friends and didis. Integrating with co-curricular experiences, children explored mud walk and recycled clay to form new models, sang songs and chants with creative movements and different ‘हस्त मुद्रा’.
