Class II ‘Our Group Element Fire’
The theme ‘Our Group Element Fire’ marked the beginning of the new session in Class II. Collecting their energy by lighting a Diya and observing the flame, children engaged their senses by observing colours of the flame, its different shades, sound, fragrance and how it moves. The children verbally expressed their associated feelings during ‘Circle Time’.
Throughout the week, children chanted the Surya Mantra and ‘असतो माँ ’chants and formed an understanding of their meaning – moving from darkness to light. Based on children’s prior knowledge, didis created a word web related to where do we see fire? Sun, stars, diya, bonfire, crackers, inner light were some of their responses. They made linkages of fire element with their group names and were excited to know their meanings.
Children further enhanced their connect through related stories, role plays, songs and poems. Integrating the theme with the creative movements, children explored postures in various forms of fire from a little flame to a bigger and brighter fire. The experience of associating with warm colours and creating free expressions while listening to the music in the background brought out the bright colours on the paper.
Children deepened their understanding of the colours, sounds and emotions of fire through a ‘Y’ chart in their EVS notebook. The theme was culminated by recalling all the experiences and writing a creative expression ‘The Fire I would Like to Be…’
