Rainy days at Shikshantar
Rainy days at Shikshantar are a joyful experience for the children after the hot summer months.
As the raindrops pitter - patter and a curtain of grey clouds cover the sky, the journey to school can be an adventure - jumping in puddles and looking for earthworms and frogs on the way to their groups.
They explore the experience of feeling the rain on themselves, watching raindrops create interesting patterns. Art with water as a medium comes with its own surprise for the children - creating abstract and imaginary patterns and figures with ‘water and water colours’.
Children thoroughly enjoy and connect with the changed atmosphere. The air is cooler and carries the earthy scent of the rain soaked soil. The experience would be incomplete without enjoying the flavour of corn cobs after a refreshing soak in the monsoon showers.
The older children enjoy rain exploring the pleasure of playing a high energy sport like cricket refining their skills of bowling and catching dripping not with ‘sweat’ but with ‘rain drops’.
