Sports Retreat 2025 - Primary School
The wave of excitement and enthusiasm was visible among the children and Didis of Primary School on bright and vibrant mornings of March, eager to share their skills that culminated from exploring outdoor experiences in ‘Oorja’ sessions every morning.
Parents of the Primary School gathered to witness practising mindfulness through yoga, enhancing their natural balance and coordination through calisthenic exercises, honing their agility and speed with the games they play.
These skills were clearly visible in the Sports Retreat that began with children performing the ‘Surya Namaskar’ to the rhythm of the drum. After a morning of ‘Yogasanas’, the children moved on to human pyramids and dumbbell drills, drawing upon their flexibility, strength and body balance.
When the children of Classes III & IV displayed their prowess in basketball maneuvers and skipping ropes, the parents joined them on the field to engage in some delightful team games like ‘Tunnel Hoopla’ and ‘Target Shooting’. Meanwhile, the children broke into groups to continue revelling in the day’s activities, taking part in hurdle courses, sprints and beam balancing.
As the day wound down, Seema Didi spoke to the parents on the importance of physical activities in Shikshantar and how the entire Shikshantar team comes together displaying collaboration, interconnectedness and teamwork at all levels, which are essential for games and sports as well.
The event ended with each child being given a jade sapling signifying prosperity and harmony as a ‘Memento’ so that they may take a piece of Shikshantar home with them and nurture it.
