Visit to Supreme Court, October 2022
As an extension of their curricular experience, students of Political Science (Class XII) along with their facilitator Minal didi, went for a field visit to the Supreme Court of India on 1st October’22. Being the highest legal authority of the nation, this was an extremely exciting opportunity for students to build a real world connect while studying about the Judiciary as part of their coursework. After due security clearance, the group was welcomed by the official tour team who escorted them from the entrance of the complex while giving details of significance like learning about the history and architecture of the Supreme Court complex after which they visited Court 1 – court of the Chief Justice of India. The Court was majestic in its design, with a vast library, TV monitors and it was highlighted that no witness boxes are present since only appeals are heard in the Supreme Court. After this, students also got entry into the grandiose Judges' library where entry on other days is particularly restricted. It is Asia’s second largest legal library which housed innumerable resources. A short documentary was shown on the role and significance of the library in the working of the judicial hearings and students learnt of an interesting concept of floating librarians. The library also houses a copy of the original Constitution of India which was kept for viewing. The students then explored other parts of the East and West wing of the complex, got a peek into the Judge’s private chambers and saw where the foundation stone is placed. The visit and its learnings were extremely enriching for students and they took away fond memories from the visit whilst enjoying their bus ride to New Delhi.
